California

California port activities are responsible for employing more than a half-million people in the state.  Nationwide, more than two million jobs are linked to California’s public ports. 

• The Port of Los Angeles generates 1.1 million jobs in California and 3.3 million jobs in the United States.
• Of those, more than 16,000 involve moving and handling maritime cargo, including trucking and warehousing jobs.
• The Port of Long Beach supports more than 315,000 jobs—about one in every 29 jobs—in Southern California.  It provides some $14.3 billion in regional wages and salaries annually. 
• Statewide, Port of Long Beach activities support about 371,000 jobs .

 Washington 

Washington port activities are directly and indirectly responsible for nearly 300,000 international trade jobs throughout the state. 

• The Port of Seattle generates more than 33,000 direct, induced and indirect marine cargo jobs, resulting in approximately $2.8 billion in salaries and wages to workers.
• In addition to these jobs, about 135,100 jobs in Washington state are related to the marine cargo moving via the marine terminals in the Seattle Harbor.
• The average salary of Port of Seattle longshoremen is $51,285 per year.
•  The Port of Tacoma generates more than 16,000 direct, induced and indirect marine cargo jobs that receive a total of $916 million in salaries and wages. 
• On top of these jobs, nearly 100,000 related jobs are with users influenced by cargo exported and imported over marine terminals in the Commencement Bay.
• The average salary of employees at Port of Tacoma’s marine terminals is $45,183.
