Matson

A&B Foundation

Founded in 1992, the Alexander & Baldwin (A&B) Foundation was established to improve the quality of life in communities in which our employees live and work.

Although the A&B Foundation is by definition a charitable organization, the hope is to do more than simply bestow grants. The main objective of the Foundation is to help educate, inspire, and instill a sense of “hope” for Hawaii’s future. In 2007, the A&B Foundation, funded by the business activities of Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. and its subsidiaries including Matson donated $2.2 million to non-profit organizations in Hawaii, the Pacific Island, and U.S. Mainland.

Ka Ipu ‘Aina — “Container for the Land”

Matson’s Ka Ipu ‘Aina program began in 2001 and aims to keep Hawaiian lands clean by sponsoring and providing a container for area cleanups. Any 501(c)(3) non-profit group on Oahu, Kauai, Maui or the Big Island may participate in this program. Once an application is accepted, Matson donates the use of a container to dispose of trash, pays the trucking expenses incurred in the delivery and pickup of the containers and also
donates $1,000 to the non-profit organization after the cleanup has been completed.
