USWC Shares of Container Traffic through U.S. Ports in March 2026
Here we present our customary figures on the changing patterns of the nation’s containerized trade. The following two exhibits display the U.S. West Coast ports’ share of the declared weight and value of containerized shipments through the nation’s ports at four key intervals over the past decade. The data presented here are derived from import/export documents filed with Customs and Border Protection. Exhibit 4 reveals that USWC ports have seen their collective share of America's overall containerized import trade decline from a year earlier, while their combined share of overall containerized exports has increased. Exhibit 5, which focuses on trade with East Asia, shows steady declines in the USWC share of containerized imports as well as a slender year-over-year fall-off in containerized import tonnage. However, the USWC share of the declared value of U.S. containerized shipments to East Asia rose from a year earlier.
