In Memoriam: Norman Fassler-Katz

Norman, who passed away on April 23 at the age of 87, was one of the California maritime trade community's best friends in Sacramento. As a longtime legislative staffer, he consistently sought to bring the diverse elements of our business together in order to promote economic growth and job creation. He was a staunch supporter of efforts to bolster the competitiveness of California's ports while minimizing the environmental impacts of the global supply chain. Over the years, he was repeatedly called upon to navigate the often conflicting agendas of the private sector, governmental agencies, local communities, and organized labor. It was a difficult journey, but he never lost hope. Norman was also one of the kindest souls one would have the good fortune to meet. The humanity that he displayed is something that we need greatly in today's world. He will be missed.
