Pacific Merchant Shipping Association Endorses Proposition 45, the Build an Affordable California Act, Initiative on November Ballot

Oakland, Calif., -- The Pacific Merchant Shipping Association (PMSA) today announced its endorsement of Proposition 45, the Build an Affordable California Act (BACA), a statewide initiative on the November ballot. As California faces rising costs and increasing demand for infrastructure, the adoption of Proposition 45 will help to advance solutions that streamline project delivery, strengthen the state's economic competitiveness, and create a more affordable future for all Californians.
"The Build an Affordable California Act represents an important step toward addressing lengthy and unpredictable approval processes that delay infrastructure projects, " said Mike Jacob, President of the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association. "This initiative will help California deliver the transportation, energy, environmental, and goods movement infrastructure our economy depends on."
Prop 45 includes a series of reforms to modernize the environmental review and approval processes - such as setting defined and enforceable timelines, implementing objective standards, and requiring evidence-based reviews, while protecting mechanisms for public participation.
“California's maritime industry and freight supply chain depends on a modern and efficient transportation network and policies that support investment in critical infrastructure are essential to our success,” added Jacob. “For cargo to flow to and from our ports and marine terminals, the state needs to maintain and grow an effective freight transportation infrastructure network, and Proposition 45 takes an important step towards improving the cost-effective and timely delivery of essential infrastructure projects necessary to maintain the state's position as a global trade gateway.”
