Container dwell times remained manageable in July 2026 at the nation’s busiest gateway. Local truck dwell averaged 3.03 days, while rail-destined cargo averaged 6.34 days, reflecting continued movement of cargo through the marine terminals amid ongoing supply chain activity.
The July performance represents a modest increase in dwell times compared with June, when local truck dwell averaged 2.89 days and rail-destined cargo averaged 5.43 days. Despite the month-to-month increases, cargo continued to move through the San Pedro Bay ports without the prolonged delays seen during previous periods of supply chain congestion.
The continued movement of cargo reflects the coordination and resilience of marine terminal operators, dockworkers, truckers, railroads, and other supply chain partners working together to keep the nation’s busiest port complex fluid and efficient.
“While we saw a modest increase in dwell times in July, cargo continues to move through the San Pedro Bay ports at manageable levels,” said Natasha Villa, Senior Manager of Public Affairs for the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association (PMSA). “The ability of marine terminals, dockworkers, drayage providers, rail partners, and other supply chain stakeholders to adapt to changing cargo patterns and maintain fluid operations demonstrates the strength and resilience of our supply chain.”
