Container dwell times at the San Pedro Bay Port Complex held steady in May 2026 for both truck and rail movements, as cargo throughput remained consistent across the nation's busiest port gateway.

Cargo destined for local delivery via truck averaged 2.60 days at marine terminals in May 2026, essentially equal to April 2026's 2.59 days and below the 2.95 days recorded in May 2025. Truck dwell has now remained under the three-day mark for 16 consecutive months, underscoring continued fluidity in gate operations.

Rail-destined containers averaged 5.16 days in May 2026, also comparable to 5.06 days in April and modestly above the 4.70 days recorded in May 2025. Rail times continue to reflect some variability month to month, consistent with the elevated performance range observed since December 2025.

"With sixteen months under the three-day truck dwell threshold, our marine terminals and drayage partners in Southern California are providing operational reliability that shippers and supply chain partners depend on. Rail dwell has also steadied its performance and  remains within the range we have seen over the past several months," said Natasha Villa, External Affairs Manager of the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association (PMSA).
