In April 2025 at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, rail-destined cargo spent an average of 4.72 days at port terminals, a sharp decline from the October 2024 peak of 9.86 days, and achieving the lowest dwell time for rail since April 2024. Truck-destined cargo remained at a steady average of 2.78 days in April, marking an entire year of truck-bound container dwell times remaining consistently low and stable.

"During these times of volatility and volume swings, the efficient movement of cargo from the ports remains essential for both Ports’ operations and for the businesses and consumers who rely on timely deliveries,” stated Natasha Villa, External Affairs Manager of the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association (PMSA). “We’re encouraged by the recent improvement in rail dwell times and pleased to see truck dwell times remain consistently low. These gains reflect the hard work of our partners throughout the supply chain and during the current period of volume fluctuation and trade uncertainty.”
