Container dwell times at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach remained stable and efficient through October 2025, reflecting continued operational resilience at the San Pedro Bay Port Complex. Both truck and rail dwell times held within healthy ranges, underscoring the system’s ongoing ability to manage fluctuations in cargo flows as the final quarter of the year progresses.
Cargo destined for local delivery via truck spent an average of 2.74 days at marine terminals in October, consistent with the steady performance observed throughout the fall. Average truck dwell times in October 2025 were nearly identical to the 2.75 days in September and 2.73 days in August, all of which remaining below the 3.16-day average recorded in October 2024.
Rail-destined containers averaged 3.31 days, marking another month of improved rail performance. This compares to 3.98 days in September, 4.98 days in August, and represents a dramatic year-over-year improvement from the 9.86-day average recorded in October 2024.
“The October dwell time results demonstrate the continued efficiency and resilience of our gateway,” said Natasha Villa, External Affairs Manager of the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association (PMSA). “Marine terminals, drayage operators, and rail partners are working in close coordination to keep cargo moving fluidly while supporting the needs of shippers and consumers nationwide.”
