The Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach continued to demonstrate efficient cargo movement through September 2025, maintaining fluid operations. Container dwell times for both local and rail-bound cargo remained within healthy ranges, reflecting the continued strength and adaptability of the San Pedro Bay Port Complex.

Containers destined for local delivery spent an average of 2.75 days at marine terminals in September, remaining consistent with August’s 2.73-day average and below the 3.21-day dwell time recorded in September 2024. Rail dwell times averaged 3.98 days, marking a significant improvement from August’s 4.98 days and a dramatic improvement from the 9.25 days recorded in September 2024.

“The sustained truck and rail dwell times in September are a clear sign that marine terminals, drayage partners, and rail operators are maintaining high levels of efficiency,” said Natasha Villa, External Affairs Manager of the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association (PMSA). “These results underscore the continued collaboration and resilience across the San Pedro Bay logistics network during this year’s peak season as it manages strong cargo flows heading into the final quarter of the year.”
